What is an HGV Medical?

An HGV medical is a mandatory health assessment required by the DVLA for drivers applying for or renewing a Heavy Goods Vehicle licence. The medical helps ensure drivers are medically fit to operate large commercial vehicles safely.

Common Symptoms of Malaria

Atovaquone/Proguanil (Malarone)

A daily tablet commonly chosen for short trips and often well tolerated. Usually started 1–2 days before travel and continued for 7 days after return.

Doxycycline

A daily antibiotic that also offers some protection against additional bacterial infections. Can increase sun sensitivity in some travellers.

Mefloquine (Lariam)

A weekly malaria tablet suitable for some longer trips but not recommended for individuals with certain mental health conditions.
